After years of research and real world experience, Doug found what he believes to be the fundamental key from which all success, fulfillment, and happiness springs--that of personal ownership. His belief was validated through personal experience, through helping thousands of people personally Take the Helm of their lives, and through a life changing conversation with Dr. Viktor Frankl—author of Man’s Search for Meaning.
Doug believes that you can teach skills until you are blue in the face, with little or no enduring success. However, once the foundational principles of ownership are practiced, successful application of skills and tools follows naturally.
How long has Doug been speaking professionally?
Doug began speaking professionally in 1993. At this time he was the Chief Operating Officer of an employee assistance and wellness company. He continued speaking part-time until 1997 when he resigned his position as COO in order to pursue his dream of speaking full-time.
What qualifies Doug to speak to organizations on individual and organizational performance?
Beginning in 1985, Doug relentlessly pursued the definitive principles of success. Coming from an alcoholic home he saw first hand what didn’t work. He took his pursuit to the next level when he entered the psychological arena in 1990. Working as a psychotherapist dealing with the most difficult challenges people face-- Doug saw the benefits of applying “ownership” principles in life. As a Chief Operating Officer, he began helping major Fortune 500 companies deal with their most difficult people problems. From these pressure cooker experiences Doug found out first hand what really works in today’s intense environment!
